House of Reticence / FORM | Kouichi Kimura

This house is built on the triangle site with a width of 18 m.

The client has requested to make the best use of the characteristic site form to build a house with both privacy protection and a sense of openness in the house.

The building is composed of the echelon volume successive along the site form, and the high wall.

The landscape-oriented façade, which is one of the external features and brought about by making good use of the site width, allows people’s line of sight to be introduced in the horizontal direction.

The interior space design also takes advantage of the site width.

On the first floor the entrance hall is located at the center. On its both ends are the spot gardens that are allocated in the spaces separated by the Japanese room on the irregular site form.

As the line of sight is designed to be as long as possible, the internal space is visually expanded so as to realize the space that gives an open feeling.

On the second floor the living room and the balcony are laid out on both ends. In addition, the ceiling of the living room is designed to be higher than that of the other rooms. These designs intensify visual expansion.

The opening at the upper side of the living room, as well as the glass wall on the balcony where a bench is furnished, is one of the elements that produce a sense of openness.

By considering the site form to select the locations for the openings and control the line of sight, this house realizes the spaces that give a sense of openness but are closed off to the periphery.

The London Design Festival is made up of programme of over 200 events, taking place 18-26 September 2010.

Mint is an interior design store established in 1998 by Lina Kanafani. Based in central London, it is renowned for its contemporary collections and creative merchandising, offering cutting edge design cleverly mixed with innovative one off pieces.

Mint presents design in the context of a living space using an eclectic mix of furniture and unique objects. Its style continually evolves as new works are regularly introduced and integrated into the collection.

觀光局與 Wallpaper 雜誌合作推出 Taiwan revealed 專題


交通部觀光局新聞稿

交通部觀光局這幾年來創意連連,屢出奇招。前年推出插畫式的廣告創意,不但令人眼睛一亮,更培養出許多粉絲,專門收集廣告圖案所衍生製作的宣傳紀念品。今年更以創意設計的角度切入,與藝術設計界知名之Wallpaper雜誌合作推出Taiwan revealed專輯,希望跨越台灣觀光低知名度的侷限,以突破傳統、顛覆的手法,非廣告的方式,成功傳達台灣觀光是精緻而有品質的訊息。

該雜誌由英國總部在今年四月間指派攝製團隊到台進行14天的採訪作業,荷蘭籍世界知名攝影師Dana Lixenberg戴娜.黎生博也是其中一員,到台進行景點拍攝時,不慎在計程車上遺失皮包,沒想到次日清晨,計程車司機把她的皮包送回住宿的旅館,讓戴娜與工作團隊直呼不可思議,深為台灣人的誠實與善良大為感動,因而留下深刻難忘的印象。交通部觀光局局長賴瑟珍聽到這樁真實的故事,也連說:這就是台灣,令人感動的台灣。

Wallpaper團隊以滿滿感動完成的台灣專輯將於七月刊出版,會以觀光局積極推廣的自行車旅遊角度切入,引領讀者神遊台灣;會以採訪曾獲知名建築獎之台灣建築菁英,讓讀者從現代建築如101,到老建築的保留看當代台灣建築發展的脈絡;也有深獲國際藝術界矚目之台灣當代藝術家如書法家董陽孜、雲門舞集的林懷民大師為讀者展現台灣奔騰的創意及深具活力的文化面向;而不容錯過的美食,則透過介紹台灣之時尚餐廳,包括由知名建築師設計之餐廳、裝璜獨具風格之餐廳、知名台菜...等,將台灣美食兼具美味與美感的形象推上國際舞台。

戴娜的作品常見於The New Yorker紐約客雜誌、The New York Times Magazine、Vanity Fair浮華世界等世界級媒體。

開關在空間裡對很多業主來說是個可以被忽略的元素,但其實一個有質感的設計開關往往能讓整面牆亮起來。在國外toggle switches很常見,但是在台灣用在室內空間的很難找(幾乎沒有),大部分都是用於電子業居多。要找到有質感的toggle switches費了我好大一番工夫,透過賴雨農燈光設計師我才找到了 - UK. Forbes & Lomax

計畫趕不上變化



一年多前的客變設計案,最近已經準備進入二工階段。

再次進入久違的現場,有點熟悉卻又陌生的感覺。熟悉的是屋內每個角落以及空間尺寸,陌生的卻是一年多前的設計想法...
隨著時間的不斷推移,每每回過頭來重新審視已完成的設計案,似乎都還有可再改進的空間,當初如果這個地方這樣...那個地方改成這樣...blah blah


【設計沒有做完的時候,只有DEADLINE】

如果沒有deadline,設計會像有機體一樣一直不停的演變下去...





在離開工地的路上,我轉頭對業主說: Hey ! I've got a better idea !

Crepain Spaens House

1. The client and the program for this house

We build this house for ourselves, Britt Crepain & Stefan Spaens (previously CSO ontwerpers, currently CSD Architecten)





2. The context

A very small plot of land (4×15m / build 4×12,5m), in a narrow street in the Centre of Antwerp, rear facade facing south. The design responds by opening up both facades maximum, split-levels and a void (with a roof of glass) on the top 3 levels (the main living areas : bureau/library/kitchen/dining and the highest split level is the sitting room with open fire and views of city and sky, from there you access the roof-terras (still splitleveled) with views over the entire city. In total the house has a basement, ground floor and 4 levels. The splitlevels bring the light from the south through the house. A lot more than with a normal (or standard) racking of floors, that most houses have. Sunlight comes through everywhere, especially in wintertime when the sun is low (ecologically we benefit from a south facade in winter, in summer we can open op top windows and create a natural ventilation through the void and the opening to the roofterras, currently (it’s snowing) the top level is almost like an iglo, with the open fire, and snow that lays on the glazed inclined windows.




3. Choice of materials

We chose all materials as natural as possible, colours flowing into each other, to create a monolithic character (other wise). Inspiration for the color pallet was found on a beach in france (driftwood, pebbles, the color of the sand)

4. Surfaces & levels

Footprint : outerwall 50 sqm 47 sqm innerwall, (when splitleveled : front =27sqm/vide stairs/elevator 4/level behind 16sqm )? 6 and a half (-1 basement (storage)/ 0 groundfloor (polyvalent for bureau/commercial or as it is now ‘carport’, washing room and extra storage behind a curtain). level 0,5 = vestiaire, level 1 : front main bedroom/master bathroom, rear second bedroom + showerroom / level 2 : front bureau – rear hobby+guest room / level 3 front : kitchen – rear dining / level 4 sitting room aroud open fire and access to first roof terrace / level 5 main roof terrace




5. Architecture & interior

Britt Crepain designed all the furniture, completely integrated (functional and esthetically) in the architecture that Britt & Stefan both designed. some of the fittings (for example glazed doors, are also designed by her) The rest of the fittings carefully selected…



6. The atmosphere

The changing of the colors by the sunlight that you cannot capture on foto (only on video), the warmth of the house, the iglo, the silence on the top floor and roof-terras, our favourite spots to sit, and the angle of view that you have there. In short : the actual and always changing atmosphere. (but to capture this, you have to live here for a while)
